Yahoo messenger offered more than 18 years of services. Before WhatsApp and Facebook messenger came in range, there was only Yahoo messenger who brought in massive amounts of emoticons of all expressions. Yahoo messenger which is often called “Old School” messenger is going to expire on August 5th.

Breaking News - Yahoo is shutting down its old Messenger after 18 years of service
According to the sources, the Yahoo messenger was hugely popular in Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, the old messenger still had a powerful following among oil traders who use this messenger to bid on commodities prices. However, this isn’t enough to keep running this app.
In a Blog post, Yahoo explained the reason for shutting down “While today we provide basic interoperation between the legacy product and the new Messenger, we encourage all of our users to complete their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy platform as of August 5, 2016. We intend to continue our focused efforts on the new Messenger, with a goal of delivering the best experience to our users.”

Yahoo also introduced the new version of Yahoo messenger which includes sharing the photo instantly, you can send animated GIF’s and even unsend messages. It is available for Android and iPhone or you can simply use the web version via your browser
Features of New Yahoo messenger:
- Enhanced photo sharing – Now you can share lots of high-resolution photos at once, and swipe to view them in a photo carousel.
- Unsend – Regret something? Simply tap it and select “Unsend” to remove it from the conversation.
- Likes – Tap on a message or photo to let the sender know you like it.
- Animated GIFs – Express yourself with animated GIFs from Tumblr (available on Android, iOS and web).
- Offline and low connectivity mode – Anything you share will be posted once you’re back online.
From August 5 users who are using the old version of Yahoo messenger will be discontinued. So Yahoo suggested its users to upgrade their Yahoo messenger because many of them are probably using a legacy version. “On August 5, 2016, legacy versions of Yahoo Messenger will be discontinued. If you haven’t upgraded Yahoo Messenger recently, you’re probably using a legacy version. To continue using Yahoo Messenger, please upgrade to the newest version “
